Selim Aydin - Trombone | Maastricht Jazz Collective
The Explosive Brass Voice. Rich acoustic resonance, punchy street-level energy, and microtonal phrasing bridging Western modern jazz with Eastern Mediterranean traditions.
About Selim Aydin
Selim Aydin is a Turkish jazz trombonist and improviser based in the Netherlands. Serving as the primary brass anchor in the Maastricht Jazz Collective, he shapes the ensemble's two-horn frontline alongside saxophonist Paul Saumets, delivering a high-energy contrast of warm, lyrical declarations and sharp, explosive lead lines.
Educated at Conservatorium Maastricht, Selim integrates classical brass discipline with profound melodic intuition and contemporary modal freedom. His distinct musical vocabulary synthesizes post-bop agility with the ornamental subtleties and rhythmic drive of Eastern Mediterranean and Balkan musical heritage, lending authenticity to the band's ethno-groove compositions.
