Alex Chavez - Double Bass | Maastricht Jazz Collective
The Low-End Anchor. Deep acoustic resonance, formidable rhythmic pocket, and agile micro-timing shifts bridging Latin American groove sensibilities with contemporary European jazz.
About Alex Chavez
Alex Chavez is a Honduran jazz double bassist and improviser based in the Netherlands. Serving as the primary harmonic and rhythmic anchor for the Maastricht Jazz Collective, he provides the resonant low-end foundation that grounds the quintet’s intricate modal harmonies, asymmetrical Balkan meters, and high-energy urban grooves.
Currently completing his jazz double bass studies at Conservatorium Maastricht, Chavez combines rigorous conservatory discipline with the organic rhythmic intuition of his Latin American heritage. His approach to the acoustic bass balances robust, driving walking lines and raw funk-infused ostinatos with delicate melodic counterpoint, percussive articulation, and reactive improvisational responsiveness.
