FAQs for Promoters and Organizers (Quick Info)

  • What is the core lineup of the Maastricht Jazz Collective?

The ensemble primarily performs as an instrumental quintet, featuring: piano/electric keyboards (David Luca), saxophone (Paul Saumets), trombone (Selim Aydin), double bass (Alex Chavez), and drums (Micky Laheij). Quartet or trio configurations are also available upon request, tailored for venues with suitable acoustics or intimate listening rooms.

  • What are the standard concert duration and program format?

Standard performances (at festivals or clubs) feature a 60–90 minute program comprising original compositions, energetic modal grooves, and modern reinterpretations of jazz standards. The band can perform either two distinct 45-minute sets or a continuous 75-minute recital designed for high impact at festivals.

  • Where is the band based, and how is tour logistics handled?

The Maastricht Jazz Collective is based in Maastricht (The Netherlands), strategically located at the crossroads of the Benelux region. The quintet travels efficiently across Western, Central, and Eastern Europe for club dates, institutional events, and festival tours.

  • What are the main technical and backline requirements?
The group requires an acoustic piano (grand or upright) or a professional stage digital piano (88 weighted keys), an acoustic drum kit (preferably jazz-sized: 18" or 20" bass drum), a 3/4 size acoustic double bass (fitted with an adjustable bridge and jazz strings), a professional bass amplifier, and standard dynamic or condenser microphones for the horn section (saxophone and trombone). Full documentation (Technical Rider and Stage Plot) can be downloaded below.

  • Are masterclasses or educational workshops available?

Yes. Drawing on the solid academic training received at Conservatorium Maastricht, the band members offer interactive masterclasses for conservatories and music schools, covering topics such as contemporary jazz improvisation, metric modulation, phrasing in odd time signatures (Balkan/Eastern European rhythms), and musical interaction within small ensembles.

  • How can promoters request an Electronic Press Kit (EPK) or technical documentation (technical rider)?

High-resolution press photos, stage plots, input lists, and biographical materials can be accessed directly from our digital press folder or requested via the email at contact@maastrichtjazzcollective.com
